The Delaware Charity Challenge is a unique fundraising and athletic competition designed to give organizations, families, and individuals a fun way to raise money and awareness for their favorite causes. Teams that enter may designate any charity they want as a beneficiary of funds they raise as a team. Part of the proceeds from the race registrations and the race sponsorships will go into a prize pool that will be distributed among the charities that raise the most money and to the charities of the teams that win the individual race events on the day of the Delaware Charity Challenge.

2nd Annual Delaware Charity Challenge Spring 5K and Adventure Challenge Relay

The Delaware Charity Challenge is a unique fundraising and athletic competition designed to give organizations, families, and individuals a fun way to raise money and awareness for their favorite causes.

The 2nd Annual Delaware Charity Challenge 5K and Adventure Challenge Relay was a great success. In its second year, more than $28,000 ($28,009) was raised for 17 different charities as part of the Race to Raise fundraising challenge. These same teams competed in the Race to First 5K and Adventure Challenge Relay, which was held April 30, 2016 at Brandywine Creek State Park in Wilmington, Delaware. 

Race to Raise

In the Spring Race to Raise competition, Team Veritext Legal Solutions won first place and received the $300 first place prize from the prize pool. At the close of the 2016 Race to Raise competition, they raised $6,425 for its nonprofit beneficiary, Ministry of Caring. Team OperaDelaware finished second, raising $5,433, including an additional $200 second place prize from the prize pool. Team Cure Sanfilippo Syndrome, raising money for Team Sanfilippo Foundation, raised the third highest amount, $3,070, including a $100 third place prize from the prize pool. Team Veritext also won the grand marketing prizes from WJBR and DETV for winning the Race to Raise, and Team OperaDelaware won the Silver WJBR prize for raising the second most money.

In the official nonprofit team category, Team OperaDelaware and Meals on Wheels Delaware finished first and second. These teams won the two Wilmington Blue Rocks advertising packages for having raised the most money of any official nonprofit team. 

When the Fundraising Challenge was completed (May 31, 2016), teams collectively had raised $28,009 for the selected nonprofit organizations, including the prize pool awards. The top 8 individual fundraising teams were: Team Veritext Legal Solutions (raising for Ministry of Caring) ($6,425), Team OperaDelaware (raising for OperaDelaware) ($5,433), Cure Sanfilippo Syndrome (raising for Team Sanfilippo Foundation) ($3,070), Team Combined Campaign for Justice (raising for Combined Campaign for Justice) ($3,000), Team End Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (raising for Muscular Dystrophy Association) ($2,335), Team Second Wind Fund (raising for Second Wind Fund of Boulder County, CO) ($2,205), Team Meals on Wheels Delaware (raising for Meals on Wheels Delaware) ($2,050), and Team Monroe Energy (raising for Meals on Wheels Delaware) ($1,185).

Race to First 5K and Adventure Challenge Relay

In the 2016 Race to First 5K and Adventure Challenge Relay, four teams won their respective competitive races and won additional prize money for their chosen beneficiaries. Team Faithful Friends won the Co-Ed Team 5K race and an additional $100 for Faithful Friends Animal Society. Team Cure Sanfilippo Syndrome won the Women's Team 5K race and an additional $100 for Team Sanfilippo Foundation. Team OperaDelaware won the Men's Team 5K race and an additional $100 for that organization. Team Ellis & Lamont won the Adventure Challenge Relay and split their $100 prize between Connections CSP and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Many others ran or walked in the fun run/walk
