The Delaware Charity Challenge is a unique fundraising and athletic competition designed to give organizations, families, and individuals a fun way to raise money and awareness for their favorite causes. Teams that enter may designate any charity they want as a beneficiary of funds they raise as a team. Part of the proceeds from the race registrations and the race sponsorships will go into a prize pool that will be distributed among the charities that raise the most money and to the charities of the teams that win the individual race events on the day of the Delaware Charity Challenge.

What Is the Delaware Charity Challenge?

The Delaware Charity Challenge is a hybrid athletic and fundraising event where teams are free to designate any charity they would like to support through their participation in the race.

In many ways, charities are already competing against each other (for time, talent, and treasury).

What is the Delaware Charity Challenge?

The Delaware Charity Challenge is a series of fundraising and athletic competition designed to give organizations, families, and individuals a fun way to raise money and awareness for their favorite causes. By centralizing the fundraising and athletic competition, we give participating charities and teams the ability to access all the benefits of participating in a special fundraising event, such as a 5K, without incurring the same overhead costs and logistical nightmares commonly associated with putting such an event, particularly with respect to internal resources and time. The result is that participating teams (and nonprofits) can concentrate their fundraising efforts in a fun and compelling way. Delaware Charity Challenge is an effort by Spur Impact Association and others to make traditional, individually-focused fundraising events, like a 5K, more team-based, efficient, cost-effective, and fun for everyone involved.

The Delaware Charity Challenge competitions are a win-win-win opportunity for any charity. Through the teams and the events themselves, charities have the opportunity to raise money and awareness for their cause. Leading up to the challenge, teams will race to raise the most money for the charity of their choice. The charities that raise the most money will win additional prize money for their charity. On the day of the Delaware Charity Challenge, teams will race to win, and the winning teams will win additional money for their selected charities. Nonprofits are encouraged to build and promote their own teams in the Delaware Charity Challenge.

The Delaware Charity Challenge is the area's premiere charity race to raise event of its kind. Sign up today!

Spring games: race to first 5K and Adventure Challenge Relay

The Spring Games consist of a 5K trail race and a separate team based competitions called the Adventure Challenge Relay. Participants (including individuals, families, and organizations) can raise money for a nonprofit of their choice through the Spring Race to Raise fundraising competition. Registration fees and sponsorships help cover the expense of the competition and also the prize money awarded to the nonprofits chosen by the teams.

WINTER GAMES: Run, Row, Bike INDOOR TRIATHLON

The Winter Games consist of the Run, Row, Bike indoor triathlon that takes place on machines (treadmills, ergs, and spin bikes). Participants (including individuals, families, and organizations) can raise money for a nonprofit of their choice through the Spring Race to Raise fundraising competition. Registration fees and sponsorships help cover the expense of the competition and also the prize money awarded to the nonprofits chosen by the teams.

The region's largest health fair, the Pursuit of Health & Wellness Expo, also takes place at the same time as the winter games.

Summer Fun: First State Duathlon

The Official Summer Event of the Delaware Charity Challenge is the First State Duathlon, a trail duathlon (run, bike, run) that is held at Bellevue State Park in Wilmington. Like the Spring and Winter Games, participating individuals and teams can raise money for their favorite nonprofit in a separate Race to Raise fundraising contest.

kent county: Race Across Killens Pond 5K

To help increase participation for those teams and nonprofits located in Kent (or Sussex County), we hold a 5K race called the Race Across Killens Pond, held at Killens Pond State Park in Felton, Delaware. Teams and participants in this event also can raise money for their favorite nonprofit in a separate Delaware Charity Challenge Race to Raise fundraising competition.

Our Mission

The Delaware Charity Challenge seeks to change the paradigm of how nonprofits look at fundraising events, such as a 5K race. Many nonprofits have a 5K with the goal of raising money and awareness for their cause. However, in most cases, these fundraising events leave the nonprofit either breaking-even or losing money, and this may be the case without factoring in staff and volunteers time spent in organizing and promoting the event. Our goal for the Delaware Charity Challenge is for nonprofits to reduce their time and energy spent on an event like a 5K. By partnering with the Delaware Charity Challenge, nonprofits will gain additional exposure to their organization, save on staff time, and potentially obtain a higher return on their investment with this type of fundraising event. More importantly, by different nonprofits forming teams and challenging each other to raise money under a common event, competitive synergies should be created such that all of the nonprofits that participate should benefit.
