Wednesday, June 27, 2018 - We are pleased to announce that announce that participants in the 1st Annual Delaware Charity Challenge Race Across Killens Pond 5K raised nearly $1,000 in donations to different nonprofits supported by participants in the race. The 5K took place on Sunday, June 24, 2018 at Killens Pond State Park in Felton, Delaware.
The Delaware Charity Challenge is a unique fundraising and athletic competition designed to give organizations, families, and individuals a fun way to raise money and awareness for their favorite causes. Since Spring 2015, participants in the different competitions have collectively raised more than $150,000 for different area nonprofits they support.
In the Race to Raise fundraising contest associated with the Race Across Killens Pond 5K, Team Sergovic Carmean Weidman McCartney & Owens, P.A., a law firm in Georgetown, raised $470 for Combined Campaign for Justice, including a $60 first place prize for being the top fundraising team as of the morning of the 5K. The runner up fundraising team, led by Alyssa Middleton-Yates of Dover, raised $330 for First State Animal Center and SPCA, including a $30 second place prize for raising the second highest amount of money ahead of the 5K. Other nonprofits chosen by runners and walkers included Delaware Law Related Education Center, Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, and the Lake Forest Community Education Fund. Like the other Delaware Charity Challenge competitions, the race registration fees helped fund the prize money awarded.

"Next year, we hope to grow the race and help raise more money for nonprofits supporting the Kent and Sussex communities."
